Short lessons you can play with. Build tape diagrams for “times as many,” change kilometers, kilograms, pounds, and hours into smaller units, and find perimeters, then check yourself.
Five short chapters follow the unit’s lessons in order. Each step shows one idea with something to tap or move, then a quick check. A wrong answer names the likely mistake and gives one more try. Progress is saved on this device.
Comparisons use tape diagrams, where “3 times as many” is 3 copies of the smaller tape. Units are changed only from a larger unit to a smaller one (kilometers to meters, pounds to ounces, hours to minutes), by multiplying, with tables like the ones in class. Parts of a pound or an hour are halves and fourths.
Times as many: a comparison by multiplying, as in 12 is 3 times as many as 4. More than: a comparison by adding, as in 7 is 3 more than 4. Perimeter: the distance around a shape. Area: how many unit squares cover it.
Two Truths and a Lie (Lesson 18) is an optional lesson. Practice it all in Zoo Crew, the game for this unit.
