Geometry, Time & Money

Short lessons you can play with. Count sides and faces, cut shapes into halves, thirds, and fourths, tell time, and count coins and dollars, then check yourself. Tap Read to me to hear any step read aloud.

How it works

Five short chapters follow the unit’s four sections in order. Each step shows one idea with something to tap or move, then a quick check. A wrong answer names the likely mistake and gives one more try.

Read to me

The Read to me buttons read each step and quick check aloud with the device’s built-in voice, for students still learning to read. Progress is saved on this device.

Numbers

Times are to the nearest 5 minutes. Money is in cents up to a dollar, and whole dollars, written like “$2 and 35¢” (no decimal points yet). Equal parts are only halves, thirds, and fourths of shapes.

The big idea

Shapes are named by their sides and corners, not by how they look. Equal parts must be the same size, but can be different shapes. Clocks and coins are both about counting by groups: 5 minutes a number, and 25, 10, 5, or 1 cent a coin.

Not covered

Center Days (Lessons 5, 10, 14, and 20) and Pattern Block Puzzles (Lesson 21) are optional lessons that work better in class. Practice it all in Clockwork Carnival, the game for this unit.
