Illustrative Mathematics K–5 · Grade 2 · Unit 6 · Geometry, Time, and Money
The carnival is in town! Find shapes in the tent, share pies, read the clock tower, and count your coins for prizes. Then ride the Big Wheel. Each station matches lessons from class. Tap Read to me to hear any problem.
Each station deals 8 fresh problems (the Big Wheel deals 10). A right answer on the first try earns 10 points. After a wrong answer, the game names the likely mistake and gives one more try for 5 points. On the Big Wheel, each right answer lights up one of the Ferris wheel’s 10 cars.
The Read to me button reads the problem, the choices, and the feedback aloud with the device’s built-in voice. It never reads the picture, since that could give the answer away.
Naming a shape by its look instead of its sides, counting only the faces you can see, calling unequal pieces halves, switching the clock’s hands, reading the next hour too soon (4:45 as 5:45), reading the minute hand’s number as minutes (3:07 for 3:35), counting coins as ones, and adding when money is spent.
Each station matches a chapter of the Learn page for this unit, which walks through the ideas step by step.
Center Days (Lessons 5, 10, 14, and 20) and Pattern Block Puzzles (Lesson 21) are hands-on, optional lessons that work better in class. Drawing shapes is on the Learn page, where students draw on a dot grid.
