Illustrative Mathematics · Grade 6 · Unit 3 · Unit Rates & Percentages
Road trip! Convert units at the border, compare prices at the market, race the clock, and hunt down every percent. Each station matches lessons from class. New to this? Learn it first →
Each station deals 8 fresh problems (the Final Lap deals 10). A right answer on the first try earns 10 points. After a wrong answer, the game names the likely mistake and gives one more try for 5 points.
Hints use the tools from class: double number lines, a "1" row in a table, benchmark fractions like 25% = 1/4, and the value of every box in a percent tape. A used hint caps that problem at 5 points.
Multiplying when a conversion needs dividing, using the flipped unit rate, thinking a bigger pace is faster, reading 25% as “divide by 25,” and mixing up the part and the whole.
Lesson 1 (an estimation launch) and Lesson 17 (Painting a Room, a multi-step project) are open-ended, so they work better in class than as scored problems.
