Putting It All Together

Short lessons you can play with, looking back at the year. Estimate fractions, put fractions greater than 1 on the number line and compare them, plan and shop for a tiny house, graph a survey, and multiply and divide with pictures and facts, then check yourself.

How it works

Five short chapters review the year, following the unit’s lessons in order. Each step shows one idea with something to tap or move, then a quick check. A wrong answer names the likely mistake and gives one more try. Progress is saved on this device.

Numbers

Fractions have denominators 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8. Tiny houses use the sizes from class (a shipping container 8 feet by 20, a school bus 7 by 14, a cabin 8 by 10), and prices add up to $1,000 or less. Bar graphs have a line every 2, 5, or 10, and multiplication and division facts stay within 100.

Words to know

Estimate: a guess that’s about right, found by looking and thinking. Scale: how much each line on a bar graph counts for. Area: the square units that cover a floor. Perimeter: the distance around it. Factor, product, quotient: in 4 × 6 = 24 the factors are 4 and 6 and the product is 24; in 24 ÷ 4 = 6 the quotient is 6.

Not covered

Taking a survey (Lesson 6) and designing your own tiny house (Lesson 4) are done with a class, so the chapters start from survey results and ready-made floor plans. The game days (Lessons 8, 9, and 11) are played with others; the last chapter reviews their facts. Lessons 12 to 15 (Notice and Wonder, How Many Do You See?, Estimation Exploration, and Number Talk) are talks best done with others. Practice it all in Field Day, the game for this unit.
