Orchard Market

Welcome to the orchard! Read the graphs in the barn and the silo, count baskets of fruit, crack the equations in the shed, count trees planted in rows, and turn arrays around. Then fill the basket at the Harvest Festival. Each station matches lessons from class.

How a round works

Each station deals 8 fresh problems (the Harvest Festival deals 10). A right answer on the first try earns 10 points. After a wrong answer, the game names the likely mistake and gives one more try for 5 points. At the Harvest Festival, each right answer adds an apple to the basket.

The "Show me" hint

Hints use the pictures from class: scaled picture and bar graphs, circles of equal groups, tape diagrams, hops on a number line, and arrays. A used hint caps that problem at 5 points.

Mistakes it catches

Counting pictures instead of what they show, forgetting a half picture, reading a bar that ends between lines as the line below, adding instead of multiplying or subtracting, counting the groups instead of the things in them, writing 3 × 6 for 6 groups of 3, and thinking that turning the factors around changes the product.

Numbers

Graphs use a scale of 2, 5, or 10. Factors go up to 10, and every number stays within 100. As in class, 4 × 3 means 4 groups of 3, and in an array, 4 rows of 3.

Learn it first

Each station matches a chapter of the Learn page for this unit, which walks through the ideas step by step.

Not covered

Game Night Seating Plan (Lesson 21) is an optional lesson, so there’s no station for it.
