Illustrative Mathematics K–5 · Grade 2 · Unit 5 · Numbers to 1,000
A dragon has come to the castle! Train with hundreds, tens, and ones at each station. Then face the dragon in its lair. Each station matches lessons from class. Tap Read to me to hear any problem.
Each station deals 8 fresh problems (the Dragon’s Lair deals 10). A right answer on the first try earns 10 points. After a wrong answer, the game names the likely mistake and gives one more try for 5 points. In the Dragon’s Lair, each right answer knocks one heart off the dragon.
The Read to me button reads the problem, the choices, and the feedback aloud with the device’s built-in voice. It never reads the picture, since that could give the answer away.
Leaving out a 0 (25 for 205), switching the tens and ones, adding the digits (18 for 567), writing “four hundred six” as 4006, counting ticks by ones on a line that counts by tens, and reading > and < backwards.
Each station matches a chapter of the Learn page for this unit, which walks through the ideas step by step.
Center Days (Lessons 7 and 13) and Hundreds of Objects (Lesson 14) are hands-on, optional lessons that work better in class.
